Sandy Springs, GA is a beautiful community just outside Atlanta, providing a nice little escape from the hustle and bustle of city life. One of the must-see attractions when visiting is the Abernathy Greenway Linear Park. There are many things to experience and explore here, as it isn’t your everyday community park. The effort, design, and talent that was put into this beautiful location is breathtaking. It gives a completely different concept to the word, “playground” and once you visit, you’ll find yourself in a world filled with playable art.
The park is a treasured site, as it offers a new approach to playtime. Named, The Playable Art Park and listed the “Best of Atlanta 2014” park by Atlanta Magazine, it is a great place for families with children of all ages. The park features a playground complete with real art for kids to play with, play on, and to inspire their creative side. In addition to the playground, there is a pavilion, picnic tables for family gatherings or a quiet lunch, and restrooms for visitor convenience.
The pavilions don’t require a reservation, and are available on a first-come, first-served basis. The grounds are well manicured and spacious enough for family or group play. Bring a ball to toss around or start a friendly game of ring-toss for a fun day out.
The playable art pieces were designed by artist from all over and feature a pretty special collection. The playground pieces include:
Spider Walk -an interactive climbable sculpture
Dragonfly – made of industrial brick, steel, mortar, concrete and polished concrete slides. It has climbing ropes and realistic windows
Whimsey Wall – a creative image that encourages kids to feel the texture to spark their curiosity.
The Big Imagine – reinvented swings that offers a more perspective view of the sky.
