Transitional Assisted Living and Memory Care Amenities

It wouldn’t be possible to put into words all that makes our Transitional Assisted Living and Memory Care communities truly special, but you see it on the faces of our residents every day! It’s the people who live and work with us that make our communities delightfully different. We strive to improve and enrich the lives of seniors who are needing a little more assistance with daily life, as well as those who are experiencing memory challenges, Alzheimer’s, or other dementias by providing just the right combination of quality, care, safety, and comfort. With a furnished apartment, healthy and nutritious meals, paid utilities, a full activity calendar, and beautiful common areas, your loved one will surely feel at home. Our goal is to help residents feel as independent as possible and evoke feelings of self-reliance through our research-backed programs, features, amenities, and therapies.

Transitional Assisted Living Program

Our Transitional Assisted Living program provides progressive assistance for residents experiencing early to mild memory loss. Our services include assistance with bathing, dressing, grooming, and personal hygiene. We can also accommodate special diets, escort individuals to and from meals and activities, and administer medications. We can offer oxygen management, continence management, ambulation assistance, and provide an on-site nurse for continued monitoring of your loved one’s well-being.

Memory Care Program

Our Memory Care program is holistically designed to ease the symptoms of Alzheimer’s and other dementias. We do this in a variety of ways. We use colored plates for appetite stimulation, arrange life-skills stations to replicate a resident’s previous career or hobbies, play era-specific music, offer aroma and music therapy, implement life-safety systems, provide purpose-driven closets, and much more. By catering to your loved one’s physical, social, emotional, spiritual, and cognitive needs, we strive to celebrate their life!

  • Building Features
We utilize circular corridors and enclosed walking paths to let those with dementia roam without getting lost. Memory boxes on doors help residents identify their own rooms, and accent walls and artwork help residents navigate the building.
  • Safety Features
Each apartment comes with safety pull-cords and residents can wear location-based pendants to provide that extra sense of security for families.
  • Multiple Floor Plans
Choose between private, semi-private, or companion suites. Temporary care is available to provide relief and assistance for regular caregivers or those in transitional situations. Most commonly, short-term care is used for respite, hospital discharge, vacation, trial-stays, or day-stays.
  • Secured Grounds
Our many secured walking paths and well-tended, enclosed gardens encourage a daily stroll. Residents can also feel safe while enjoying the outdoor environment on our patio featuring comfortable benches and beautiful views.
  • Experienced and Professional Staff
Our community’s leadership team includes our Executive Director, Health Services Director, and Life Enrichment Director. Our passionate and dedicated team of skilled professionals offer exceptional support for all our residents’ needs through engaging daily activities.

Life Enrichment Program

Based on the Sunshine’s six Pillars of Wellness, our Life Enrichment Program draws from a philosophy that is deeply rooted in a Montessori-style approach. While the Montessori method was initially developed for early childhood education, the philosophy and approach – modified to honor the age and experiences of our residents – provides sensory stimulation and encourages cognitive stimulation while building on existing social skills.

Holistic Engaging Activities

Residents can enjoy fun social activities and comfortable common areas. We have a certified Life Enrichment Director leading engaging daily activities, weekly on-site social events, and fun cultural excursions as part of a researched-backed health and wellness program.

Person-Centered and Collaborative Care Program

Sunshine’s approach to collaborative care begins with in-depth discovery and an ongoing, detailed assessment process centered around individual needs, values, and preferences to create custom Person-Centered Care for each resident. It depends upon open and transparent communication and equal collaboration across all departments.

24/7 Dining Program With MIND Diet

We go beyond all-day dining so our residents can enjoy gourmet food prepared from the freshest ingredients any time of day or night. Our daily menu also incorporates foods from the Rush University Medical Center MIND diet that fosters brain health. Our goal is that the MIND diet, in conjunction with our many Memory Care programs, will help hold off memory issues for as long as possible. Entrees are served on colored plates to stimulate appetite and a server greets each resident individually with multiple daily menu choices.

Easy Move Program

Our caring and dedicated staff work diligently to ensure that your loved one’s transition to our community is smooth and simple. We’ll connect you with our Trusted Partners who are fully equipped to assist with real estate matters, professional moving services, veterans assistance, financial services, and more.

Memory Care Therapies

We strive to improve the lives of those experiencing memory challenges, Alzheimer’s, or other dementias with our research-backed Memory Care Therapies. These unique therapies draw from a philosophy deeply rooted in a Montessori-style approach. While the Montessori method was initially developed for early childhood education, our therapies implement a modified version to honor the age and experiences of our residents. These therapies combat the cognitive challenges presented by Alzheimer’s and other dementias by providing crucial sensory stimulation. By engaging the senses, we can help trigger memory function and work to keep the negative effects of dementia at bay.
