REVIEWS OF Ashley Gardens

What our residents have to say

The Ashely Gardens Team goes above and beyond, from the love and compassion shown to the residents to the cleanliness of the community. The activities keep the residents engaged throughout the day and make sure there’s involvement for everyone. It truly is the best around!
We moved our dad to Ashley Gardens from another facility and he made Ashley Gardens his home for a year. Ashley Gardens became his home thanks to the amazing caregivers who loved him and treated him like family. No memory care facility is perfect, but Ashley Gardens was perfect for him. The caregivers at Ashley Gardens truly know how to love and provide care in a respectful way allowing their residents to maintain their dignity. At Ashley Gardens, our dad and our family developed a meaningful relationship with all of the employees. During our time visiting dad, we witnessed employees treat every resident with the same care that they showed our dad. The end of my dad’s life was traumatic for us, but the staff at Ashley Gardens supported our dad and us every step of the way. Here are a few reasons why Ashley Gardens was the best place for our dad:
1) Caring staff-from the welcome at the door to the kitchen staff to the caregivers-he was loved throughout this day. ***Staff was fully present and not glued to their cell phones like in other facilities
2) Activities: Ashley Gardens provides a nice balance of activities for all residents. From volleyball to sing alongs to crafts, there was something for everyone to enjoy.
4) Balanced meals that he enjoyed in a dining room with silverware, real plates and a “no beer” if he desired. He sat at an assigned table ensuring he always had friends to dine with. (In a previous facility, he often ate alone and he was lucky to get a plastic fork)
4) Fox Rehab staff who were present almost daily and worked hard to take care of dad’s physical, speech and occupational needs.
5) The facility-the facility is open and goes in a big circle. Dad was able to walk laps and stop and say hello to friends along the way. The facility is fully staffed 24 hours/day and we were always comforted knowing that he had support whenever he needed it.
My father received excellent care here. The entire staff knows each resident, and you can tell they take time to understand their personalities and preferences. I’m forever grateful for their professionalism and unique commitment to helping a population that often gets neglected. Their communication with our family was also superior. I’d give more stars if I could!
My wife of 50 years has dementia and requires full time care. After 7 months there she is happy and content. She is always clean and well dressed when I visit. Her room and bath, as well as the entire facility is always immaculately clean. Her clothes are laundered regularly, and always neatly arranged in her closet. She loves the food. Kudos to the Executive Chef! The health care staff is very professional and coordinate all visits with her medical professionals and therapist. Finally the entire staff is wonderful! They seem to love my wife and treat her (and me when I visit) like a member of their immediate family. The directors have been tremendously supportive to me from day one and regularly send me photos and videos showing my wife enjoying the activities. I consider them not just business associates, but friends. Ashley Gardens greatly exceeds my expectations.
Awesome place filled with attentive creative care-givers! They keep the residents busy (having fun)! My wife and I began taking care of a friend of ours when her partner passed away and wish we had found Ashley Gardens first for her but she's there now and having so much FUN. For example, Elvis was there a few weeks ago singing and dancing, she LOVED that! GOD Bless ;)
The facility is clean! Almost luxurious! The staff are so friendly and more than accommodating! Overall its an absolutely lovely place and they treat our family like their own! Kelly has such a heart for her work and a passion for each of the patients! They help you navigate the tough waters of elder care and the future plans once their stay is through! The only thing i wish we knew was if you want your loved one to go out in the community on field trips you need to give a sepeeate amount of cash to the receptionist to pay for the outings!! Other than that I would certainly recommend them!
I share care of my older aunt who is 90 years old and suffering with Alzheimer's .. My cousin actually found this place in Charleston and we moved her there on Saturday and she seems to really be doing very well after only 24 hours .. Staff is very attentive
And very caring .. Facility is new !! it is very very nice !!

Questions about Ashley Gardens

Frequently Asked Questions

Do Ashley Gardens staff members have dementia-specific training?

Ashley Gardens takes pride in offering our memory care staff the training and development they need to not only care for but also empower our residents to lead independent and enriched lives. Both classroom and hands-on training – designed specifically for caregivers in the memory care setting – are required upon hire and then on an ongoing basis after that. This ensures two things: 1) basic concepts and best practices are refreshed at least annually, and 2) new research and innovations are taken into consideration and implemented into training for cutting edge practice. If you’d like to learn more about the training requirements for our Charleston memory care community staff, your local contact is eager to share that information. Contact us today to learn more.

How does the community’s design affect my loved one’s care?

Standalone memory care communities offer greater security for your loved one, without feeling confining or restrictive. People with dementia enjoy walking and visiting with neighbors, but the confusion they may experience can result in wandering into harm’s way. Memory care communities are designed with contrasting colors, accent walls, and circular corridors, as well as outdoor fenced gardens with pathways that lead to doors. All of these features help a resident with dementia navigate their way around the community. The design of standalone memory care communities creates a pathway so that walking becomes purposeful and fulfilling.

What types of assistance does a traditional nursing home provide? How is a memory care community different?

Both nursing homes and memory care facilities offer assistance with activities of daily living, such as bathing, dressing, oral care, and medication assistance. But only memory care communities are specifically designed around the needs of people living with dementia. Memory care communities are fully staffed with professionals who are committed to caring for people with these specific challenges.

The professionals at memory care communities have vast experience with dementia, Alzheimer’s, and other memory challenges. Staff members at memory care communities understand that all of your loved one’s behaviors are in response to a perceived situation. These expert team members become detectives in order to get to the root of those responsive behaviors and resolve the response through a holistic approach. In contrast, nursing home staff may not receive the same training as memory care communities’ staff, and may therefore opt to sedate someone with challenging behaviors rather than resolve the response in another manner.

A memory care community will not only provide assistance with the activities of daily living, but will also provide specialized programming and care specific to your loved one’s needs.

What does a memory care facility in Charleston cost versus an in-home care provider?

It’s very challenging to compare in-home care to a memory care facility for several reasons.

When calculating the cost of in-home care, it’s important to include:
• Mortgage or rent payments
• Lost wages for caregivers providing assistance
• Groceries and other dining costs (keeping in mind that you may be able to benefit from one meal a day from meals on wheels)
• In-house doctor’s visits (for those who choose this option)
• The cost of utilities
• Entertainment and therapies
• Medications

When you choose a memory care community instead, all of these components are included in one monthly rate, so no calculations are necessary. You know what to expect (and peace of mind is priceless). Does a memory care community’s dining program make a difference for my loved one?

Both nursing homes and memory care communities provide three daily, nutritious meals to their residents. However, only memory care communities specifically design their dining programs around the needs of residents experiencing memory challenges. Memory care communities use brightly colored plates, which studies have shown to stimulate appetite and increase food recognition. Additionally, standalone memory care communities will often incorporate food that is known to be “brain healthy” in their dining experience. If your loved one would benefit from the professional, 24/7 care of a specialized memory care community, contact our friendly team today to find a community near you.
