Staying Healthy This Fall with a Gahanna Assisted Living Community

Tips for Maintaining Good Health As Autumn Approaches

Tips for Maintaining Good Health As Autumn Approaches

When one thinks of fall, often the first thoughts that come to mind are colder weather and changing leaves. However, fall is an important season for more reasons than just fall foliage and football games. As the temperatures drop, flu season will be arriving. Luckily, the experts at Sage Park, and Assisted Living and Memory Care Community in Gahanna, Ohio, have put together this list of precautions you can help your loved one take to make sure they remain healthy this fall.

Bundle Up

One of the easiest ways to stay healthy this fall is to bundle up! Always check the weather, especially if you are planning on going outside, and dress yourself and your loved one accordingly. If it is going to be colder, make sure to help your loved one dress in layers, and don’t forget hats, gloves and scarves for when it gets very cold! Layering is a great idea for seniors so that they can add or remove clothing in accordance with how the weather fluctuates. Making sure they are not getting too hot or cold when spending outdoors is key in maintaining health as the season changes.

Wash Your Hands

Another simple way to help your loved one stay healthy with flu season approaches is to ensure that they wash your hands, frequently and thoroughly. Washing one’s hands is one of the easiest healthy habits to keep germs at bay. Get into the habit of washing hands before each meal, and after visiting public spaces or touching any public heavily-used surfaces, like doorknobs. Another great habit that goes alongside washing your hands is reminding your loved ones not to touch their face, if possible. Touching the face can transfer germs into the body, so by keeping their hands clean and away from their face, you can better prevent the transfer of any germs that they encounter, and stay in good health!

Hydrate and Eat Healthy

A great way to keep the body strong and healthy is to feed it what it needs! Drinking lots of water is a must, as hydration is a huge component of staying healthy. Eating a healthy diet with lots of nutritious foods is also very important, and luckily at Sage Park, there are a ton of options for yummy and nutrient-rich foods. Plus, Sage Park uses the MIND diet, which provides foods that are not only healthy for the body, but also the brain. As the old saying goes, you are what you eat, so make sure to eat healthy this upcoming fall!

Be Conscious of Their Peers

If the last year and a half has taught us anything, it is that you must be conscious of not only your own health, but the health of the people you come into contact with. If you and your loved one are planning on spending time in close contact with someone, ask the person how they are feeling beforehand, and if they have spent much time in large crowds or public spaces. Try planning social events outside if possible, where there is more airflow, or wear a mask around people your loved one doesn’t live with to be extra-safe. While spending time with others is crucial to mental health, taking the right precautions when spending time with others can be very beneficial to physical health this fall.

Well wishes from Sage Park this fall! Sage Park is an assisted living community that always believes the health of its residents is the top priority. Hopefully, with the help of these tips, everyone can stay healthy and happy this fall.
