Transitional Living Support for Alzheimer’s in Beachwood, Ohio
With a population rapidly aging, the care for people suffering from Alzheimer’s is more of a need today than ever. Fortunately, there are Beachwood retirement homes specializing in this type of transitional care for people who have been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. Windsor Heights are the perfect senior apartments for rent allowing seniors with Alzheimer’s to slowly transition from independence to assisted living.
The Importance of Transitional Living and Memory Care
Alzheimer’s varies in its severity. For some people, the symptoms may come on slowly at the end of their lives, while others may have sudden onset in their 50’s and before 60 need to be in an assisted living facility. It’s important once diagnosed with Alzheimer’s to have discussions not just with your physician but family as well about what signs to look for. However, independent living for people diagnosed with Alzheimer’s is essentially a non-starter. There are many reasons for this.
The problems presented by Alzheimer’s don’t show up in a drastic way. There’s slight forgetfulness that often is explained away as aging. However, Alzheimer’s has clear cognitive markers, so it’s important to be vigilant about the signs. Once diagnosed, there are several reasons independent living is off the table. Perhaps the most obvious would be the short term memory issues. Many Alzheimer’s patients need Beachwood memory care because accidents due to independent living while diagnosed with Alzheimer’s are more numerous than people think.
Transitional living is a great solution to give Alzheimer’s patients independence with protection. This Beachwood senior living facility specializes in Alzheimer’s care, so they understand how to give those in their care the most independence possible. The idea behind transitional living support is simple – gradually integrate greater amounts of services into a person’s life as they need them. This is why Beachwood senior care at Windsor Heights is the perfect solution if you or a loved one is diagnosed with Alzheimer’s.
Instead of having independence ripped off like a band-aid, there is a process helping maintain cognitive acuity while keeping Alzheimer’s patients in a safe, nurturing environment. For many people, this solution is perfect because it allows for the Beachwood assisted care staff to continually assess the patient and always confer optimal care.
Why Alzheimer’s Patients Need Support
Though it may seem obvious, there are several reasons Alzheimer’s patients need support. However, there are problems with putting people newly diagnosed with Alzheimer’s that aren’t showing signs of impairment in full-time Beachwood senior care. Plenty of studies show there is a link between an Alzheimer’s induced decline and being placed in full-time care prematurely. While it is imperative that Alzheimer’s patients get care, they need to have managed care tailored to their needs.
Alzheimer’s is a neurological disorder where the brain’s functionality declines to the point where a person is unable to recognize people they’ve known for decades, among other symptoms. In the case of Alzheimer’s there are problems with short term memory lapse. Simple tasks like turning off the stove are unfortunately things you can’t trust someone with Alzheimer’s to do on their own. Driving is also a problem, as Alzheimer’s could be an impairment. The worst part is the gradual onset of symptoms means a person doesn’t have a specific marker to know there is a problem. To understand a person’s cognitive ability requires neurological testing. Neurologists can assess cognitive acuity and furthermore, if a patient is housed at a Beachwood senior community, this allows for easy transportation of patients to and from offices.
The bottom line is patients with Alzheimer’s require greater amounts of care, but the care needs to be nuanced so they can maximize their independent time as they will eventually need round the clock care.
Importance of Facilities that Support Seniors with Alzheimer’s
The reason why families with Alzheimer’s patients trust Windsor Heights is because of a long track record of giving Alzheimer’s patients incredible care. There are plenty of senior 55 plus Beachwood communities but not all have the same ability to handle the different needs of Alzheimer’s patients in various stages of the disorder.
Placing an Alzheimer’s patient in a one-size-fits-all round the clock care facility can burn out the staff and be detrimental to the care of the patient. Alzheimer’s patients requiring round the clock care have different needs than patients newly diagnosed or patients in early stages. This is where Windsor Heights is different. Their transitional model allows patients to get the appropriate care for their progression. Having appropriate care allows them to stay intellectually challenged, which has been known to slow down the onset of symptoms.
Ultimately, Alzheimer’s is a dreaded diagnosis, but making the best of it is critical for patients and their families. At Windsor Heights, the nurturing care is exactly what these patients need.
