Staying Active During in Winter at a Folsom Retirement Village

Keep Yourself in Tip-Top Shape this Winter

Staying Active During Winter in Folsom, CA

Once winter arrives, it can be easy to forget your daily exercise routine. It’s much more tempting to stay inside to keep warm and cozy up during the shorter days. However, physical activity is essential no matter the time of year, and it’s necessary to have a happy and healthy life to maintain it no matter the time of year. The team at Creekside Oaks, a community for Independent Living in Folsom, California, is sharing a few tips for you to stay active during the winter, including our weekly physical schedule!

Tips For Staying Active:

  • One of the best reasons to retire at Creekside Oaks is its location in Folsom, CA, which provides beautiful weather. Folsom provides the perfect weather to spend time outside, as it rarely reaches freezing temperatures during the winter. That means there are plenty of opportunities to enjoy the outdoors, whether you prefer a brisk walk around the neighborhood, a hike, or a stroll around your favorite downtown area to enjoy some holiday shopping.
  • The best way to incorporate physical activity into your day is to schedule a time that works for you and stick with it. For example, while the winter months tend to be chillier in the morning, many choose to exercise in the morning to have time for other activities the rest of the day. If you feel more awake and energized in the morning than the afternoon, or vice versa, schedule your exercise during that time.
  • Incorporate variety in your exercise not to tire or find yourself bored during the winter months. While walking is a great endurance exercise, try to use other exercises like strength training using weights or bands. It’s also important not to forget flexibility! Hone in on your flexibility with activities like yoga, which can also assist in your balance and stability.
  • Exercise is an activity that’s for the betterment of your physical and mental self. Therefore, don’t over-exert yourself or try any exercises that could cause you any pain. If you feel any pain while working out, please safely stop and request assistance.
  • Prepare for weather limitations. No matter where you live, take precautions against bad weather and stay inside if you decide to work out on a rainy or cold day. Try working out in one of our community activities or the fitness center!
