Folsom Powerhouse State Historic Park of Folsom California

Sacramento has a rich history with numerous museums, landmarks and parks that display it in depth. The Folsom Powerhouse State Historic Park of Folsom is one representative of this historic state. It also serves as a significant movement I commercial application of electricity. The powerhouse is tremendously unique because it strongly resembles the original construction from when it was built in 1895.

The grand opening of the location was celebrated with what the area calls a grand electric carnival parade. It proceeds through the downtown area of Sacramento, accompanied by a 100-gun salute from a detachment of soldiers around the vicinity of the substation. The powerhouse still displays vintage generators and the control switchboard. Tourists can view the immense General Electric transformers, which can conduct between 800 and 11,000 volts of electricity. The canal system and forbays that transported the water from the dam are also on display.

The powerhouse has a recreation area that is located near Folsom and can be reached by traveling Hwy I-80 or 50. When traveling in groups, you may find it best to schedule a group tour. These can be scheduled throughout the week. The weather is modest, as summer and spring time is warm, while winter months can be cool.

Residents of Folsom can take advantage of opportunities to volunteer by becoming a docent. Interaction with groups and school children is how most volunteers spend their time.
