Austin Seniors Invited to Audition for “These Eyes Have Seen” National Digital Living Historygram On November 13-14

Initiative Seeks to Chronicle Senior’s Poignant Life Stories From Across the U.S

AUSTIN, TX (October 23rd, 2019) – The stories range from tales of love lost and rediscovered, finding strength through adversity, wartime memories, and humorous triumphs. These are the stories of our Greatest Generation — America’s seniors — and they are being told, saved and treasured in “living history” in the form of a digital media initiative called These Eyes Have Seen. Seniors in Austin will be given the opportunity to have their personal story featured on These Eyes Have Seen when auditions are held on Wednesday, November 13, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at The Clairmont Retirement Community, and on Thursday, November 14, from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Continental Retirement Community.

Launched in 2015, These Eyes Have Seen celebrates seniors by documenting their stories to provide joy, inspiration, and guidance to people everywhere. To date, more than 125 stories from across the country have been documented, all accompanied by visually stunning photographs that capture not only the essence of the story but of the story tellers themselves. The seniors profiled to date offer insights into the experiences that impacted them most in their rich and long lives, how they reflect upon with their greatest happiness or regret, and various words of wisdom on what it means to lead a life well-lived.A passion project of Sunshine Retirement Living, a family-owned company that manages 21 retirement communities in 10 states, plans for the project include growing it to showcase hundreds more seniors across the country in coming years.

“These Eyes Have Seen has become a passion project for us, allowing us to create a living history channel that celebrates seniors everywhere,” said Luis Serrano, CEO, Sunshine Retirement Living. “Filled with joy, courage, inner strength and optimism, we hope these diverse and fascinating histories inspire everyone, young and old. While we work every day to enrich the lives of our residents at each of our communities, the reality is that we have found our lives deeply enriched by our residents. We wanted to share that inspiration and guidance with a broader audience, so we created this storytelling project.”

Each of the auditions will include a complimentary lunch for all participants and their guests, plus live entertainment and special guest speakers. At The Clairmont’s event, guests will enjoy a live performance from K.R. Woods, a delicious TX BBQ, and Chicken Scratch Bingo. The Continental’s event will feature a special presentation about the lesser-known history of Austin by Austin American-Statesman Columnist Michael Barnes, plus live music by Fiddling Around Town with Tom and Vernon, and a TX BBQ, Reservations are encouraged and can be made by calling The Clairmont at (512) 236-5733 or The Continental at (512) 634-8074.
