Book Signing on April 4 with Ilse Stritzke, Author,

Nightmares of an East Prussian Childhood: A Memoir of the Russian Occupation

Written with Son Bernie Stritzke, Non-Fiction Book Chronicles Author’s Life and Struggles as a Child Living in

Russian-Occupied Germany Post World War II

HOT SPRINGS, AR (March 30, 2015) – Country Club Village, an all-inclusive, independent living, senior retirement community on 28 beautifully manicured acres inside of Hot Springs National Park, will host a book signing with Hot Springs resident, Ilse Stritzke, author of “Nightmares of an East Prussian Childhood: A Memoir of the Russian Occupation,” on Saturday, April 4, beginning at 12:30 p.m. The non-fiction book, written with Stritzke’s son, Bernie Stritzke, and published by McFarland Publishing, chronicles the author’s life and struggles living in post-World War II Germany during the 31-month Russian occupation.

In the book, Stritzke recalls the traumatic and heartbreaking events as her family was driven from their idyllic home, her family’s fight for survival, the brutality that led to her mother’s rape, the death of her grandparents and baby brother, and the heart-wrenching circumstance of her sister’s death in a work prison.

“Ilse Stritzke’s account of her childhood under an oppressive command in post-World War II Germany is honest and impactful, and we are delighted to be able to host her book signing at Country Club Village,” said Dick Glaunert, Sunshine’s Chief Community & Resident Advocate, “Revisiting difficult even disastrous times in one’s life can be painful and Ilse’s book shows that hope, inner strength and determination leads to survival, forgiveness and healing.”

The book signing event begins with a free lunch with an RSVP at 12:30 p.m. followed by a reading and Q&A with Stritzke at 1:30 p.m., and a book signing at 2 p.m. Books will be available for purchase at the event.
