Popular Greenville Master Chef Victor Singleton Starts a Culinary Revolution For Local Seniors

MAULDIN, SC (Aug. 17, 2020) – Greenville’s award-winning Master Chef Victor Singleton has spent the past 25 years creating extraordinary experiences at some of the area’s finest dining establishments. Today, as the new executive chef at Maple Brook Terrace Retirement Community in Mauldin, he is preparing to start a culinary revolution for the senior residents at the brand-new community that opened its doors on Monday, August 17, 2020.

For decades, residents of retirement communities had few dining options consisting mainly of limited menus of bland foods served banquet-style three times a day. Recently, there’s been a seismic shift at some of the more pioneering communities across the country, which are now offering resort-style living with 24/7 dining experiences featuring homemade meals with fresh local ingredients that appeal to discerning tastes and various lifestyle preferences such as low-fat, gluten-free, vegetarian, vegan and more. Residents can also enjoy delicious sandwiches, salads, soups and more from the community’s Bistro menu around-the-clock.

Born in Pickens, South Carolina, and raised in Greenville, Chef Singleton has run the kitchens of many local favorites including Seasons Café and Catering, the Greenville Country Club, Restaurant “O”, Currant Thymes, and Holly Tree Country Club, while also teaching future chefs at The Virginia College and The Culinary Institute of the Carolinas at Greenville Tech.

So why turn from traditional dining to the world of retirement? According to Chef Singleton, he realized it was an excellent opportunity to share his passion for food with a group that would appreciate his attention to detail and the care he puts into each and every meal. “Age shouldn’t be an excuse to deliver a subpar product, rather it’s opportunity to provide our residents with great looking, tasting, smelling and even sounding food.”

“Residents at Maple Brook Terrace are in for a real treat as Chef Singleton plans to make each meal an artistic masterpiece — seasonal recipes that will exploit the best of Greenville’s fresh local ingredients,” said Carol Babbitt, executive director, Maple Brook Terrace Retirement Community. “For the many locals who have been wondering where Chef Singleton went, the answer is simple: to lead a culinary revolution at our wonderful new community.”
