BEND, OR (July 25, 2014) – Bend, OR based Sunshine Retirement Living, owners and operators of 18 retirement communities in seven states, announces the launch of its 2nd Annual Wellness Month. During August, the communities will offer a series of free health and wellness events, where residents and local seniors alike are empowered to “Get Informed, Get Fit, Get Restored & Give Back” through numerous wellness-focused activities, inspirational events including insights and advice from informative, expert speakers.
“At Sunshine Retirement Living, we make it a priority to provide our residents with the tools and support to maintain full and active lives,” said May Hasso, CEO, Sunshine Retirement Living. “As we launch our second annual Wellness Month in August, we want to invite all of our residents and seniors in each of our communities to join us and learn how fun and easy it can be to stay well and active well into retirement years.”
According to Denise Park, director of wellness and activities for Sunshine Retirement Living, seniors can function at their optimal level when they employ various tools and activities to their daily lives. “Some of the tools for aging well include eating quality food, adequate activity, ample sleep, a supportive community and time spent in a natural environment,” said Park. “When combined, this is an effective way to increase self-awareness, mental clarity and overall quality of life.”
To complement the various wellness activities, each community will also host local fundraisers and community support initiatives. “At Sunshine Retirement Living, we’ve found that seniors who engage in activities that help others in their communities, often have healthier outlooks on life and that translates to their overall wellness,” said Hasso.

Last month, chefs from across Sunshine Retirement Living came together for our annual Chef Conference to cook, learn, and connect with the people who make our culinary teams so special. 💛
From plate presentation and photo-ready dishes to collaboration and leadership, our chefs shared their knowledge and learned from one another. Together, they explored their own “culinary DNA” and reflected on what it means to truly listen to the teams they lead.
Beyond the presentations, there was time to cook side by side, exchange ideas, welcome new chefs, and catch up on life outside the kitchen. Those moments matter. They’re how colleagues across the country become the Sunshine family.
A special thank-you to Spencer Guzman, PhD, MBA,CEC, who leads our Sunshine chefs nationwide, for the hard work, care, and inspiration behind this year’s conference.
