The Verandah at Graywood Retirement Community in Lake Charles Plans $10 Spaghetti Dinner To-Go With all The Fixin’s Fundraiser for Alzheimer’s Association on Thursday, June 8

LAKE CHARLES, LA (May 24, 2017) – The Verandah at Graywood, an independent and assisted living community located within the exclusive, master-planned community of Graywood in Lake Charles, LA will host a “$10 Spaghetti Dinner To-Go With All the Fixin’s” fundraiser to benefit the Northern LA chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association® on Thursday, June 8. The dinner, with original recipes created by the community’s executive chef, Taylor Burge, includes a generous helping of Spaghetti with Meat Sauce, Smothered Green Beans, Garlic Bread and Double Chocolate Chip Cookie.

An enduring supporter of the Alzheimer’s Association, The Verandah at Graywood has raised just under $10,000 during the past two years to help raise funds and awareness to advance care, support and research programs, and seeks to double their efforts to raise at least $10,000 in 2017. Both staff and residents continue to help organize candy sales, Family Fun Fairs, and Casual Fridays, which is when staff can donate $1.00 to wear jeans to work.

A walk team consisting of staff and residents also participate in the local chapter’s annual “Walk to End Alzheimer’s,” which be held this year on Saturday, October 14, 2017, at the Lake Charles Civic Center. In 2015, the team won first place in donation efforts and Executive Chef Burge won the Jambalaya Cook-Off. In 2016, the community won The Spirit Award thanks for an inspiring and enthusiastic dance by several residents.

The executive and staff team at The Verandah created the fundraiser to help achieve their 2017 goals for the Alzheimer’s Walk. Executive Director Kayla Baham and is very active on a local level with the Alzheimer’s Association and has served on the local chapter’s Board for five years. “While there continues to be great strides and advances into treatments for Alzheimer’s, more than 5 million people in the United States live each day with the disease,” said Baham. “The support of generous and caring people like everyone here at The Verandah really does help in the quest to find a cure.”

The dinners must be ordered by Thursday, June 1, at 4:00 p.m. by calling 337-409-4615 or emailing pam.vandyke@sunshineret.com. The dinners can be picked up at the community, located at 5851 Gray Market Drive, anytime between 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. on June 8, with payment made by cash or check at that time, with checks payable to The Alzheimer’s Association. Orders for more than 12 persons can be delivered within a 10-mile radius.
