Digital Campaign Honors and Celebrates the Inspiring Life Stories of Seniors Across the Country

PHARR, Tex. (May 1, 2018) – Their stories reveal tales of love lost and rediscovered, finding strength through adversity, wartime memories, humorous triumphs, and much, much more. They are the stories from our greatest generations – America’s seniors – and they are being told, saved and treasured in “living history” in the form of a social media initiative called These Eyes Have Seen®, www.theseeyeshaveseen.com. Now, seniors in and around the Rio Grande Valley are invited to audition their own special stories for permanent placement on These Eyes Have Seen when auditions are held in Pharr, Texas, on May 17, 2018, at The Gardens of Brook Ridge Assisted Living and at Brook Ridge Retirement Community on May 23, 2018.

Launched in 2015, These Eyes Have Seen celebrates seniors by documenting their stories to provide joy, inspiration and guidance to people everywhere. To date, more than 100 stories from across the country have been documented, all accompanied by visually stunning photographs that capture not only the essence of the story but of the storytellers themselves. The seniors profiled to date offer insights into the experiences that impacted them most in their long lives, how they reflect upon with their greatest happiness or regret, and various words of wisdom on what it means to lead a life well-lived. A passion project of Sunshine Retirement Living, which manages 20 retirement communities in nine states, plans for the project include growing it to showcase hundreds more seniors across the country in coming years.

Seniors from the Rio Grande Valley area, who want to be included in the project, can audition their stories at one of the two events, which will both feature complementary food and beverages, live entertainment and presentations by local historical experts:

  • The Thursday, May 17 auditions at The Gardens at Brook Ridge, which is located at 1201 West Ridge Road in Pharr, will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. during the retirement community’s free 50’s themed “It’s a Wonderful Life” auditions. The event will feature live jazz music and 1950’s era food and beverage specialties. Reservations are required by Tuesday, May 15, by contacting Estella Rodriguez at estella.rodriguez@sunshineret.com or (956) 298-2336.
  • The Wednesday, May 23 auditions at Brook Ridge Retirement Community, which is located at 1301 West Ridge Road in Pharr, will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The retirement community’s free, 1940’s USO-themed event will begin with the presentation of colors by the local ROTC, followed by a buffet supper and live jazz music and door prizes. Reservations are required by Monday, May 21, by contacting Adela Gonzalez at adela.gonzalez@sunshineret.com or (956) 429-8061.

“As they say, wisdom comes with age, and These Eyes Have Seen was created to permanently capture the invaluable wisdom of the senior community around us,” said Luis Serrano, CEO, Sunshine Retirement Living. “If we just take the time to really listen to the seniors in our lives, we will all be better for it. We have been truly amazed and thankful for all the stories we have heard around the country and are honored to be able share them in this way with people from around the world.”
