Beat the Heat this Summer at our Cleveland Memory Care Community
Stay cool with these top tips this summer season!
There’s truly nothing that makes you feel like a kid again like the summer. Between the delicious summer fruits and sunshine, this season brings joy to every day. Though many of us can easily overheat and experience discomfort with the rising temperatures and high humidity.
At Windsor Heights Memory Care and Transitional Assisted Living, we love to come up with ways to keep our residents active but cool in the summer which include weekly Jeopardy and Bingo events, all in our amazing amenity filled community. For those looking to stay cool with their loved one, whether within or outside of our residences, we’ve compiled a list of our top tips to beat the heat this summer! Check them out below!
First and foremost, the best way to ensure you stay cool in the summer months is to repair or replace cooling devices in your or your loved one’s home. While our facilities take care of most of the legwork for you between cleaning and maintaining air conditioners, if your loved one has a small fan in their room that has seen better days, it might be time to invest in a new one! In your own home, check those air conditioner filters! Replace old filters or clean reusable ones. Wipe down fan blades whether on the ceiling, standing, or window, while remembering to turn off ceiling fans and unplug standing or window fans to stay safe. Don’t forget to replace the batteries on any battery operated cooling devices!
For those days that are just too hot to even take a step outside, consider gathering your loved ones and hosting a movie mini-marathon. Pair two classic summer films together for an awesome double feature, pop some popcorn, whip up some cool mocktails, and enjoy creating an afternoon of memories with your loved one. For some great summer movie ideas, we love The Sandlot, Roman Holiday, The Parent Trap, and Mama Mia!
Summer Fresh Mocktails
We can’t mention the word mocktail without giving you a couple of simple mocktail ideas! While a flavored seltzer or glass of juice is always delicious, sometimes you just need to kick it up a notch. Combine fresh lemonade and iced tea for a classic Arnold Palmer, and add a muddling of fresh blueberries for an antioxidant kick! For those who love bubbles, a simple combination of plain or mandarin seltzer water with a splash of cranberry juice and freshly squeezed lime is both refreshing and hydrating. If you like something a little more savory than sweet, we highly suggest this incredible basil based mocktail from Epicurious!
Ice Cream Social
One of the most fun events to host in the middle of summer is a sweet ice cream social! Gather your friends, family, and bring out the pints (or gallons) of delicious ice cream! We suggest having plenty of options for varying diets. Classic flavors, dairy-free options, sorbets, or even sugar free ice cream means that everyone can enjoy the party. Be sure to set up a table with ice buckets to keep the ice cream options cold. Include a variety of topping options like chocolate syrup, sprinkles, fresh fruit, nuts, and even out-of-the-box ideas like fresh coconut or toasted sesame seeds!
Summer doesn’t need to be sweaty and uncomfortable. With our top tips, you and your loved one can stay cool all summer long!
Decorating your space is one of the best ways to celebrate the season! We love seeing our residents celebrate with their favorite traditional seasonal decorations. Whether you love holiday photos from years past, a decorative item with a story behind it, or all of the classic holiday decor, we want to know:

These cooking classes also encourage socializing and community spirit. We strive to always provide our residents a place to connect through shared tasks, exchanging stories, and forming valuable relationships, which helps to alleviate loneliness.
