Spend Time in Nature

While it may seem simple, spending time outdoors has been proven to improve mood, lower blood pressure, and reduce stress! In addition to the great health benefits of our bodies getting more vitamin D, it has been shown that being outdoors tends to make people happier. And living in Georgia, there is no better place to enjoy the beautiful weather! Just make sure if you are spending time outside that you stay hydrated, wear sunscreen, and dress appropriately for the temperature.

Practice Mindfulness

As we said, Georgia is known for its fantastic weather and colorful flowers in the warmer seasons. Which is why getting outside, connecting with nature, and practicing mindfulness is a great way to relax this season. Mindfulness is the practice of focusing on the present moment and allowing yourself to acknowledge any feelings of stress or anxiety, as well as any wonderful feelings that come your way. By doing so you allow yourself to focus on the present moment which is not only great for relaxation but also for making the most of each day this summer. Check out this great resource for more information on mindfulness.

Write in a Journal

Another activity that is great for the mind and promotes relaxation is journaling. Putting pen to paper to express your emotions, thoughts, and feelings in a healthy way can be an excellent way of staying present. In addition to writing your thoughts, dabbling in poetry, short stories, or any other form of writing that helps get your creativity flowing is great for relaxation. It has been shown that journaling can boost memory comprehension, and is also great for improving self-confidence and mental health! Bonus points if you journal outside in the sunshine!

Meditate

Similarly to mindfulness, meditation is a great way to center your emotions and get in touch with how you are feeling. While mindfulness is a form of meditation, there are various other practices that you can try out to meditate this season. We offer weekly meditation sessions, but also encourage you to practice on your own! Check out this beginners guide for more information!

Practice Yoga

Our final activity to try for a relaxing season is yoga. Yoga is great for the body and mind and can help with mobility, flexibility, strength, and balance! While yoga has many great health benefits, it is also a relaxing activity, yet gets your body moving. If you are interested in trying yoga, we offer weekly chair yoga classes to our residents! Check out our activities calendar for more info!

Our entire team here at Dunwoody Pines is dedicated to helping our residents enjoy a fulfilled and relaxing experience while they live with us! We can’t wait to help them with these relaxation practices and to help them make the most of each day this season!
