It is no secret that summertime is one of the best seasons of the year! From the bright rays of sunshine, cloudless blue skies, and warm days, most of us want to get outside and enjoy the refreshing weather. One of our favorite ways to spend the long days of summer is by connecting with friends and family, making memories and creating something beautiful together.

In our Central Parke Memory Care and Transitional Assisted Living community we thrive on connection and activity during the summer months! What better way to usher in a summer of fun than to try new hobbies and activities? Read below for easy new activities to try out this summer!

Pickleball

Pickleball has truly been taking the country by storm! If you’ve never played, pickleball is a sport in which two or four players hit a hollow plastic ball over a net using paddles. Grab a partner and try this sport that’s a perfect mix of tennis, ping pong, and a little bit of wiffle ball. This activity will surely get your body moving this summer, and at the very least bring you closer to friends with a little friendly competition.

Sour-Dough Bread Painting

The sour-dough bread making took over our hearts several years ago, but we bet you have never used the bread like this before: painting it with food coloring! This can be a fun and unique way to combine your love for baking and arts and crafts! Grab your favorite food coloring pigments and a small paint brush, and design your sour-dough bread as a new masterpiece. You can even experiment with mixing colors and creating new hues you’ve never seen before.

Jogging

Don’t consider yourself a runner? No worries! Take up jogging or power-walking. The goal is simply to get your heart rate up and to break a little sweat. Make jogging more enjoyable by wearing moisture-wicking clothes and broken-in tennis shoes, and by listening to your favorite fast-paced music. There is no better time than now to move your body! Just don’t forget to stay hydrated and wear your sunscreen.

Watercolor

Want to dive into color theory, painting techniques, and more? Give watercolor painting a try! This painting technique is simple and can produce beautiful results. Looking for some easy watercolor painting ideas to get started? A landscape or a simple flower painting can turn out simply gorgeous. Quick tip to newbie watercolorists: you can control the sharpness of the lines and the vividness of the color by the amount of water you mix in the paint with your brush.

Leaf or Flower Pressing

Press your favorite leaves or flowers at our Friday nature craft activity session! To participate in leaf or flower pressing, simply take your plant, arrange it so the petals lay clear and flat, and close it in a large book. Then the only thing left to do is wait! Once they are pressed and dried, you can glue them onto a canvas or place them in a frame to display in your home.

Summer weather is great for being outdoors, getting active, and exploring your creative side. The possibilities for trying new things this summer are endless! At our Ohio communities we strive to provide spaces for our community to engage with one another, build lasting memories, cultivate new and inspiring hobbies, and live an intentional life!
