Food for Thought: The MIND Diet
As a Tucson memory care community, the experts at Copper Canyon have designed every part of our community lifestyle to support our residents who are experiencing memory challenges. From the activity calendar, packed full of intentional socialization and mind-supporting therapeutic activities, to our community design, thoughtfully constructed to be safe, secure, and comfortable for our residents, everything is designed to support our residents in maintaining their quality of life. That includes the food, of course!
Our meal plans feature foods from the Rush University Medical Center MIND Diet, which is proven to help support brain health. This diet includes healthy food groups that support full-body health, including green leafy vegetables, lean proteins, olive oil, and berries. The MIND diet also recommends limiting other foods, such as fried foods and sweets, but that doesn’t mean our residents can’t enjoy their favorites! Our dining team simply makes sure these foods are indulgences, rather than staples, in our menus.
Our goal is that the MIND diet, combined with our incredible Memory Care Life Enrichment Program, will help support residents’ health and wellness and hold off further memory issues for as long as possible.

Gardening is a relaxing, productive activity that can help lower stress and support our mental health. But just because the weather is getting cooler doesn't mean we have to wait until next year to enjoy gardening. Fall is the best time to plant perennial flower bulbs, which bloom year after year!
Check with your local nursery for recommendations on what to plant. There are a range of choices--daffodils, tulips, allium, and hyacinth are 4 of the hardiest perennials for all planting zones. When spring comes around, you can look for your budding flowers!
Food is a critical component of not only our health, but our overall happiness and well being. That’s why we place a large emphasis on the importance of healthy eating. The food we eat every day plays a huge role in our brain function, and that doesn’t change as we get older. In fact, it’s even more important!: ow.ly/FQ7O50KWcuY
