Garden Way Celebrates True Love

Last fall, Jeff was in the dining room of Garden Way enjoying his dinner when he noticed a beautiful blonde with an amazing smile. Thanks to mutual friends, Jeff was introduced to Lois over their meal, and the rest is history.

At the beginning of 2013, Jeff & Lois approached Jim and Terrie Powell, Managers of Garden Way Retirement Community, to ask if they could visit. Holding hands, they lead the Powells to a private area and shared that Jeff had just asked Lois to marry him and she said YES! They wondered if there was any way to have the wedding at Garden Way since this is where they first met and fell in love. “Of course! It would be our honor to host your wedding” replied Jim. Lois & Terrie and Jeff & Jim were each discussing different planning aspects: the ladies discussed time, date, colors and flowers while the men discussed how to merge the two households just after the wedding. “Oh, I’ve got one more question.” said Jeff. “We would really like it if the two of you would stand up for us at our wedding.” Jim and Terrie were touched and immediately agreed.

The wedding day quickly approached, and all of the staff pitched in to make sure each detail was perfect. With 120 residents, 60 family members and close friends all expected to attend this celebration of love, the chefs decided one wedding cake would never be enough, so they made TWO! Chef Martin also decided to carve an ice sculpture: a large heart with the initials J and L on top. AMAZING!

The wedding was lovely! The service was beautiful with the bride wearing the latest in pistachio green skirt suit and Jeff in his sport coat & tie. Jeff’s daughter, Terri Leezer sang “Always”, a true testament to the love of Jeff & Lois. After a few tears, certainly some giggles and a heartfelt kiss, Jeff & Lois were pronounced husband and wife.

The reception was quite a party! The Garden Way Dining Room was never so filled with love as it was this day. After cutting the cake and sweetly sharing a bite, the bride and groom were toasted by Jim and greeted with cheers for a loving, happy life together. Gary Geertsen performed “Unforgettable” for the couple’s first dance as Mr. & Mrs. Overstreet. They were then asked to be joined on the dance floor by the Powells and shortly thereafter, by everyone! After a wonderful 2-hour celebration, the couple was whisked off to the Valley River Inn by limousine where they would stay the night before honeymooning at the stately Adobe Inn in Yachets, Oregon.

The honeymooners are now back and settled nicely into their new home together. Please join everyone at Garden Way Retirement Community in congratulating Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Overstreet.
