When prepared, soaking up the sun is a great way to get some mood-boosting benefits. Lucky for us, being located in Texas, we don’t have a shortage of sunshine! Whether it’s going on a light stroll around the community or taking a field trip to a local park, spending time with your loved one outdoors has an amazing impact on their overall health and mood. Being in the sun helps your body regulate melatonin, which has been shown to reduce stress and improve one’s sleep cycle. Plus, Vitamin D is another amazing immune-boosting vitamin that we can get from the sun! If you and your loved one choose to enjoy time outdoors, be sure to wear appropriate clothing, sunscreen, a hat and sunglasses to protect your face and eyes from harmful UV rays, and to drink plenty of water.
There’s nothing more soothing than gazing at some of the beautiful birds that frequent the Rio Grande Valley! Grab some binoculars for yourself and your loved one, and see what feathered friends you can discover within the community or at your local park. Some common birds you may come across in our area include the White-Tipped Dove, the Lesser Nighthawk, and the Buff-Bellied Hummingbird. Our residents have access to healthy breakfasts every day of the week, but for our friends at home, one easy way to add a nutritious punch to your morning meal is by adding spinach to a simple scramble.
It is extremely easy to make for yourself or a loved one if you’re short on time in the morning. Simply heat up a nonstick pan, add your eggs, some spinach, and a little of your favorite seasoning (we love everything bagel seasoning)! Turn the eggs occasionally to cook them through, and you're ready to eat.
