Healthier Hot Cocoa

It’s hard to beat a cup of hot cocoa in the cold months. Unfortunately, most recipes or store bought versions of hot cocoa are loaded with processed ingredients or sugar. This healthier version of hot cocoa from Eating Well is the perfect balance of indulgent and health-conscious for you and your loved one. It will be easy to whip this up in no time on a chilly evening. The ingredients in this drink are:

  • Unsweetened cocoa powder
  • Sugar
  • Low-fat milk
  • Optional additions: orange zest and ground cloves, ground cardamom with vanilla extract, or chili powder with ground cinnamon

To make this, start by mixing the cocoa and the sugar in a mug. Warm your milk to steaming, and then carefully add it to your mug. Finally, if desired, add one of the flavor combinations and mix well. Enjoy!

Pumpkin Latte

While pumpkin spice lattes are vastly popular in the fall months, many people enjoy them all year round, especially when it’s cold outside. Like hot cocoa, it can be difficult to find a pumpkin latte that isn’t basically a dessert in a cup with an abundance of sugar. Luckily, this pumpkin spice latte recipe from Eating Well has real ingredients that taste good while being good for you! With ingredients like pumpkin puree and pure maple syrup, you can’t go wrong. Here’s what you’ll need to make this cozy drink for your loved one:

  • Whole milk (or milk of choice)
  • Pumpkin puree
  • Pure maple syrup
  • Ground nutmeg
  • Cinnamon stick
  • Espresso or coffee

You’ll kick off this recipe by pouring your milk in a saucepan over medium heat. Carefully add in the pumpkin puree, maple syrup, and nutmeg. Whisk until smooth, and then add the cinnamon stick. Continue to heat the mixture until it just begins to simmer. Then, remove from heat. Next, pour your coffee or espresso into a large mug, followed by your heated milk mixture.
Garnish your cozy drink with the cinnamon stick and a pinch of nutmeg. Enjoy!

Peanut Butter Shake

While the other healthy cozy beverages are sure to warm you up, this one will keep you full for hours! This peanut butter shake recipe by Eating Well delivers the rich and satisfying flavor combination of peanut butter and chocolate. With its creamy texture and short list of ingredients, this might be your next favorite breakfast drink! Here are the few things you’ll need:

  • Unsweetened vanilla soymilk, or milk of choice
  • Sliced frozen banana
  • Reduced-fat plain Greek yogurt
  • Cocoa powder
  • Natural peanut butter

There aren’t many steps to this super simple recipe other than combining all your ingredients! Pour the milk in a blender followed by banana slices, Greek yogurt, cocoa powder and peanut butter. Blend until smooth and enjoy! For extra nutrients, you can add in some spinach.
