As the weather grows colder and the holiday season approaches, china cups and ceramic mugs that sat unused during the long, hot summer months are… pulled from their cupboards. Steaming cups of hot tea and cocoa once again become the perfect complement to any social gathering. The warmth we feel from a cup of tea poured on a chilly day, in front of a fireplace or in a cozy kitchen, comforts us and brings us together with loved ones like nothing else.

The Verandah at Graywood has an annual tradition steeped in the wonderful effects of sharing a hot beverage with someone special. Every year, the Community invites families and friends to take part in a tea and dessert celebration of the season. Older and younger generations gather in their kitchens, passing down recipes from grandparent to grandchild, to bring a dessert for the celebration. These recipes are gathered while tea is served and shared from friend to friend, family to family, so that by the end of the day’s celebration, new bonds have been made. These new connections grow this annual tradition stronger year by year.

Be part of this tradition with The Verandah family at 2 p.m. on Sunday, December 13th. Come enjoy the holiday festivities and The Verandah Tree of Memories, a beautiful evergreen which residents are encouraged to add keepsake ornaments to each year as an ever growing symbol of the moments we create with loved ones.

To hold a tea time holiday tradition in your own home, follow this simple guide for brewing the best tea:
Green Tea: steep 45 seconds to 1 minute
Oolong Tea: steep 3 minutes
Black Tea: steep 2 to 3 minutes
Rooibos Tea: 5 to 6 minutes

The Verandah is proudly a designated Toys for Tots drop-off location for South Lake Charles for your charitable donations through December. Other holiday events open to the public are: Angel Tree viewing, starting Dec. 1st; Christmas Shopping Bazaar, Dec. 5th; and the Holiday Parade of Homes, Dec. 20th.
