Holiday Traditions to Try from Our Cincinnati Retirement Community

Create new memories with these new holiday traditions!

The holiday season is officially upon us! At Central Parke Memory Care and Assisted Living in Mason, OH, our community loves the holiday season and all the joy it brings to our residents. From the music to the food, the family and friends to the wonderful tradition of it all, there’s truly something that brings a hint of magic to everyone. We love incorporating time-loved traditions into our holiday festivities but also love to break out new traditions to keep the holiday season fresh and exciting! We’ve compiled a couple of our favorite new holiday traditions we think you should incorporate into your season. Check out our list below!

Gratitude Tree

A gratitude tree is the perfect craft project for your next holiday gathering! Take a sturdy vase and fill it with branches (either faux or natural), and place it in an easily accessible spot. Provide guests with cut-out leaves made from construction paper, along with markers and festive stickers. Include simple instructions encouraging everyone to write down something they are thankful for and hang it on the tree. By the end of the event, the once-bare branches will be filled with gratitude leaves, leaving everyone with warm hearts and most importantly, a sense of connection.

Holiday Walk

Remember the classic family tradition of driving around to see holiday lights? This year, try something a little different: bundle up warmly, grab a to-go mug filled with tea or decaf coffee, and take a leisurely stroll through a beautifully decorated neighborhood. It’s a fantastic way to spend time with family, friends, and neighbors while also getting a bit of exercise. Bring along some holiday treats to share with people you meet along the way, turning it into a sweet community-building moment!

Fancy Lunch

For a fun twist, plan a lunch outing with a loved one to a fancy restaurant—or get funky and visit a quirky diner or pancake house—and dress up in your finest attire. Order something special, enjoy a few hours of great food and laughter, and relish the opportunity to be admired in your elegant outfits. Make this a yearly tradition by visiting a new restaurant each time or revisiting the same spot year after year. You can even call ahead to request a special touch, like a beautiful tablecloth or candles, to make the experience even more memorable.

Letters to Santa

It’s never too late to believe in Santa! Even though you might not expect to receive anything on your list, writing a letter to Santa can be a fun way to relive your childhood memories. Instead of asking for practical gifts, reflect on the items you dreamt of as a child (or even as a young adult). Share these memories with family and friends, describing the gifts and why they were so meaningful to you. Recalling fond moments from the past is a wonderful way to bond with loved ones, and who doesn’t enjoy a little bit of holiday magic and make-believe?

We hope you try out these new holiday traditions this season and that they help you and your loved ones create new core memories you can carry with you throughout the years.
