At The Haven at North Hills Senior Residence, we make sure each resident’s individual needs are supported by providing Person-centered care that focuses on the resident, not a predetermined process. We provide them with care and programs that meet their lifestyles, goals, capabilities, and more to ensure we support them in the best way possible. At the Haven, we assess our residents’ needs, values, and preferences from the beginning using an in-depth discovery process. However, we don’t stop there. It’s an ongoing process, with assessments conducted throughout the resident’s time with us. Using this information, we create care plans for our residents using these core components of Person-centered care:
Empower Residents – We empower our residents by helping them feel safe and by encouraging them to participate, making them more likely to engage in meaningful activities
Support Independence – At the Haven, we focus on engaging our residents in activities that maximize independence. Independence can help them gain a better sense of purpose and keep them mentally and physically engaged.
Enhance Dignity – We treat our residents with the utmost respect and compassion, to ensure that they feel confident and valuable no matter their capabilities.
Honor Choices – We want our residents and their families to feel as if they have input on their care, and we strive to understand their preferences and needs in order to honor residents’ autonomy.
Promote Positive Wellbeing – Our approach promotes overall wellbeing by providing activities that support the mind, body, emotions, and spirit of our residents.
Improve Quality of Life – We help improve the quality of life of our residents by surrounding them with caring friends and staff, assisting them to maintain their skills, and supporting their memory with proven treatment and lifestyle factors.
Our Pillars of Wellness
Sunshine’s six pillars of wellness act as the foundation for our collaborative Person-centered care approach and are used to create life enrichment activities for our residents. The following are the pillars used to design our lifestyle programs:
Physical Engagement – We provide our residents with activities, such as armchair yoga, that promote their physical fitness as well as curb agitation, wandering, sleeplessness, and other health issues.
Social Connections – Isolation is common for seniors, which can lead to negative mental and emotional health effects. At The Haven, we offer large and small group socialization opportunities, such as ice cream socials, for residents to build genuine connections and be part of a community.
Spiritual Support – We aim to ensure that we meet the needs of each of our residents’ spirituality through exposure to nature, affirmations, prayer, discussion, and any other ways we may support them to ensure they feel comfortable and purposeful.
Intellectual Discovery – Keeping the brain active is important, too, and our residents love learning new things. We provide a variety of classes, lectures, and other educational activities based on varying topics and interests to encourage residents to keep learning.
Sensory Stimulation – To spark memories from residents’ past, we utilize sensory stimulation purposefully designed for them. Things like touch, images, meals, and aromatherapy can bring back wonderful memories and spark conversation.
Emotional Expression – At the Haven, we create opportunities for residents to connect with their passions on a deeper level, whether through art, storytelling, life skills, dance, or whatever else they enjoy.
Our Person-centered approach is specifically designed to not only assist our residents when needed, but to support their wellbeing and happiness for the duration of their retirement.
