Have fun in the sun this season with these easily accessible activities!
This season is the perfect time to be outdoors to enjoy nature and soak up the warm weather! Here at Dunwoody Pines Retirement Community in GA, we encourage our residents to get outside, enjoy the fresh air, and take advantage of all of our amazing outdoor amenities. But with so many choices, it can be hard to choose your activities each day. To help you out, our expert team has created a list of must-try activities, whether you’re with friends or solo. Here are our top four must-do outdoor activities:
One of our favorite outdoor activities for our residents to participate in are outdoor games like cornhole, ring toss, and ball toss! This is a great way to interact with fellow residents and friends and also spend time in the beautiful Georgia sunshine. We recommend getting out early in the morning, or early in the evening when the sun isn’t quite as hot so that you will sweat from the competition, but not the sun! If you choose to play outdoor games, be sure to take precautions against the sun by using plenty of sunscreen, wearing sunglasses, wearing loose-fitting long sleeves, and a hat to protect from sun exposure!
If looking for a more relaxing activity that is less physically demanding, we highly recommend finding a nice shady spot to sit down with a good book. Reading is a great way to go on adventures without ever having to leave the comfort of our incredible community. We suggest trying a new genre, author, or series of books, that way you will experience new and exciting stories. If you want to feel more of a community, ask friends to join in. You can either sit together reading different books, or start your own small book club where you and your friends read the same book and then can discuss throughout. Whichever you choose, reading is one of our favorite ways to spend time outside!
Get Involved At The Dunwoody Nature Center
The Dunwoody Nature Center is the perfect place to get outside and enjoy all that nature has to offer! With 22 acres and four distinct habitats, there is no shortage of things to experience when you visit. If you are looking to do more, they also have the opportunity to volunteer, and also have adult programs which include beekeeping, nature lovers book club, and yoga classes! If the nature center sounds like exactly where you feel you need to be, you can find more information about all they have to offer here!
Take A Daily Walk Around Our Community
Looking for ways to get outside and get active a little closer to home? Take a stroll around the Dunwoody Pines grounds and appreciate the beautiful views that go along with it! Grab a friend or two and use this time to catch up, or walk by yourself for a little alone time. This is a great way to get your body moving, and also spend time outside in the beautiful Georgia weather–just be sure if you do choose to walk, that you hydrate well beforehand, and bring water with you. We also suggest going early in the morning to avoid any extreme temperatures, wearing a hat and sunglasses, and prepping your skin with plenty of sunscreen.
We love seeing what our active retirement residents get up to when the weather is nice! Our amazing staff is here to assist and help you have the best outdoor experience possible.
