Yummy Fruit Desserts for Spring from Our Atlanta Retirement Home

Refreshing and sweet goodies for your next picnic or party!

Let’s get straight to it – summer truly is the best season for fruit. There’s nothing tastier on a hot summer day than a big bowl of sorbet, or a healthy dollop of cool whipped cream on fresh peach cobbler. From blackberries to cherries, peaches to pineapple, there’s plenty of fruit-based dessert options to try this summer.

With the help of our amazing Hammond Glen retirement community in Sandy Springs, Georgia, we’ve compiled a list of some of our favorite fruit desserts to make with your loved ones. Check out these tasty dishes below, make a shopping list and a plan with your loved ones, and go to town baking and creating!

Stone Fruit Pouches

A quick and easy way to grill succulent stone fruits, these peaches and plums will melt in your mouth. Easy to make with just a few steps, this dish combines juicy stone fruits, spicy gingersnaps, lime, brandy, and of course, a huge scoop of ice cream to top it all off. One of our favorite ways to end a cookout or even a night around a campfire, this dessert is sure to please every last guest at your next outdoor event.

Pineapple Crisp

Adding a tropical twist to a classic fruit dish, a pineapple crisp offers the rich buttery goodness of the brown sugar crisp with a tangy and surprisingly sweet pineapple base. There’s no fruit that screams beach vacation quite like pineapple, and this recipe exudes that tropical vacation flavor. We recommend topping it off with fresh whipped cream and shredded coconut for a piña colada spin! Or for an unexpected twist, add a dash of cayenne pepper for some heat!

Peach Sorbet

We brought peaches back because there really isn’t a more seasonable fruit! This peach sorbet from Martha Stewart shatters all of the preconceptions you may have about sorbet being a palette cleanser at a stuffy dinner party. Super creamy and downright delectable, we suggest pairing it with a raspberry compote or swirling it with rich mascarpone cheese. Or even use it in lieu of ice cream in your next milk-shake, for a dairy-free frozen treat! All those suggestions aside, if you steal a spoonful straight out of the container in the freezer, we can’t say we blame you.

Indigenous Dumplings with Berries

There’s something really incredible about finding recipes that use truly local ingredients and teach us something about the land we live on, and these dumplings truly do just that. Straight from an indigenous chef, these pillow-soft and light as air dumplings make use of some of the best fruits native to the US, berries! Wild blueberries are a Maine staple, and blackberries can be found in abundance in the Pacific Northwest. Keeping true to using local ingredients, the sweetener is none other than maple syrup, offering a delicious and totally unexpected flavor profile!

We love to share tasty recipes with you all year long, but we truly have a special place in our hearts for summer fruit recipes. If you try out one (or all!) of these treats – particularly with a loved one in our community, try to save us a small bite – we’d love to share in your cooking! Residents of our memory care and transitional living communities enjoy delicious fruit desserts as a treat, and we are so happy to share some of our new favorite ideas with you!
