We love summer in South Carolina–with long days, warm nights, and plenty of time for summer fun. Sunshine Retirement Living hosts some of the top Transitional Assisted Living communities in SC, and we look forward to watching our residents make the most out of their summers at our beautiful properties. Our expert team has come up with four foolproof ways to ensure that you and your loved one have the best summer while in our communities. Here are our top four summer activities:
There is no better way to beat the heat of a South Carolina summer afternoon than splashing around in a pool. Our convenient retirement community locations mean that you’re never far away from a fun pool day. If looking for some social time, we recommend grabbing a few friends and maybe even a game to bring with you! If looking for some quiet time, grab a book, some music, or a magazine and lounge in the relaxing sun. Whatever you decide, we love knowing that our residents have the option to find a place to stay cool hanging out at the pool.
Tip: If spending an extended period of time outside, bring lots of water to stay hydrated. Apply sunscreen regularly, and wear other UV protection like hats, long sleeves, etc.
One of our favorite ways to relax is by getting outdoors and moving your body! Not only is this a great way to get your steps in, but exercise has been shown to release endorphins, which are a naturally occurring hormone in the body that cause pain reduction and relaxation. At each of our South Carolina retirement communities, you will not only find a beautiful campus to take these walks on, but we also offer weekly walking clubs so that you can enjoy the outdoors with other residents and friends. During the warmer months, we do recommend getting outside early in the morning or in the evening when the sun is not at its highest to avoid overheating.
Yoga is a fantastic way to relax and move your body without the strain that some exercises bring with it. A great option for beginners at any age is chair yoga. Chair yoga combines traditional yoga poses, but makes them more accessible by modifying them to be done while sitting. If you think yoga could be for you we recommend trying these chair yoga poses:

Reading is another one of our favorite ways to relax and enjoy the summer sunshine. Whether you are sitting by the pool, sitting indoors enjoying the air conditioning, or relaxing in the shade, reading is an easy way to dive into other worlds and relax all summer long. Maybe you are the kind of person who likes to reread your favorite book once a year, or maybe you love experiencing the lows and highs of a new story. Here is a list of books that you may like. Regardless of what you choose, this is one of our all time favorite ways to unwind during the summer!
No matter how you choose to spend your summer, we are more than happy to help accommodate any needs or activities at the top 55+ communities in South Carolina. We look forward to watching our residents unwind and enjoy the beautiful summer sunshine.
