Seasonal Activities To Try At Our 55 Plus Communities In Texas
Make the most of every season with these 4 ideas!
The post holiday season slump is one we have all felt. With the passing of the holidays and the start of the new year, it can be hard to figure out just how to occupy your time. Luckily for you and your loved ones, our luxury retirement communities in Texas offer top-of-the-line amenities as opportunities to express your creativity and help stave off those winter blues. Here is a list of the top four seasonal activities to try as we embrace the winter months and head into spring.
Host a build-your-own hot chocolate party
There is a wide misconception that the only time to drink hot chocolate is during the holiday season, but that could not be farther from the truth! Hot chocolate is delicious, warm, and the perfect focal point of any get together. We recommend gathering your favorite (and even unique) hot chocolate toppings, inviting friends and family over, and enjoying this yummy treat on a cool Texas night. From marshmallows and whipped cream, to cinnamon and crushed up graham crackers, this is a fun and versatile way to gather together without the need for large festivities. Make your own creative combinations of flavors and see which ones surprise you!
Decorate for the upcoming holidays
One of our favorite activities after the new year is to decorate for the upcoming holidays. While holidays like Christmas, hanukkah, and Kwanza seem to dominate December, there are plenty of other holidays to look forward to in the new year. We have found that decorating for other fun holidays like Valentines Day and St. Patricks Day makes our residents’ living spaces feel more inviting and helps prevent that post New Year’s sadness when the other decorations come down. In addition to being a fun activity, this is the perfect creative outlet for those of you who love to create DIY projects. For inspiration for these decorations, check out Country Living Magazine.
Plan your activities calendar
One of our favorite things to help our residents do is to plan their activities calendar for the new year. With top-of-the-line amenities, workout classes, a weekly and monthly activities calendar, and so much more, this is a great way to make sure you or your loved one achieve all that they want to in 2023. We encourage all of our residents to participate in any and all activities that they wish, and especially encourage them to do so with other residents and friends. Since our monthly calendar changes, we recommend sitting down at the beginning of each month to ensure they have allotted the time for everything they wish to participate in. Do a winter clean-out
Following the hustle and bustle of the holidays, the first several months of the new year is the perfect time to clean out and organize your space. Not only will this help you start the new year on the right foot, but it will also help you make room for any new items you received. A rule of thumb when cleaning out your or your loved ones space is if it hasn’t been touched, worn, or used in a year, donate it. This doesn’t apply as much to sentimental items, but things like old shirts, pants, and any other item that could be used on a daily basis. Check out this article from the University of Texas at Austin for more tips on cleaning out your space.
We love helping our residents embrace the new year, and enjoy all that our inducible communities have to offer. For more information on any of our 55+ communities, or to schedule a tour, contact us today.
We all want to start our days on the right foot, and prioritizing a well-balanced breakfast is a great way to make sure you have energy all day! Our residents have access to healthy breakfasts every day of the week, but for our friends at home, one easy way to add a nutritious punch to your morning meal is by adding spinach to a simple scramble.
It is extremely easy to make for yourself or a loved one if you’re short on time in the morning. Simply heat up a nonstick pan, add your eggs, some spinach, and a little of your favorite seasoning (we love everything bagel seasoning)! Turn the eggs occasionally to cook them through, and you're ready to eat.
If you have more time, you can add cheese or avocados too!
