There’s something about the cooler seasons that gets people ready to start crafting away! From adorable knitted pumpkins to aromatic fall candles, we have put together a list of our favorite seasonal decorating crafts that double as decor for you and your loved one in our independent living communities! Here at Sunshine Retirement Living, residents in our independent living communities love to craft! We’ve compiled a list of some of our favorite seasonal decorating crafts to try this fall. Check out our list below!

Knit Snowmen

These cute little snowmen are the perfect seasonal decors for your home! We suggest making a few, placing them in your home in pairs or sets of three. Try picking a palette of winter colors like icy and rich blues or classic Christmas colors. Or get creative and go with a pastel palette or even a cream, navy, and gray theme! We also think these make really great gifts for friends and neighbors!

Wreaths

Warm and inviting, a fall wreath on your front door is a classic way to add a little panache to your home. With so many textures and colors to choose from, we’d have to argue that fall might just be the best season for this particular craft. While you can use brightly colored faux leaves, acorns, and ribbon for a traditional look, we highly recommend letting your creativity loose! These designs from Southern Living are sophisticated yet welcoming, and we cannot get enough of them. Our particular favorite makes use of pampas grass, dried baby’s breath, and feathers. It’s timeless, yet bohemian, and certainly makes a statement on your front door!

Candles

Awaken more than just your visual senses this fall! Candle making can be a big project, but it’s definitely worth it in the end! Not only is it a fun project to complete with your loved ones–it also is a way to bring a little aromatherapy into your life. We love this easy DIY tutorial for candle-making beginners. Consider using essential oils that are a little warmer and spicier for a fall-scented treat. We love cinnamon, nutmeg, cardamom, cedarwood, vanilla, or sweet orange.

Fall Garland

We love to decorate our mantels or dining tables with a festive garland during the holidays, but we’ll let you in on a secret: garlands are not just for the holiday season! A fall-themed garland can be placed on your fireplace, dining table, strung up behind your couch, or draped elegantly over your staircase banister. These beautiful garlands from The Pioneer Woman feature so many different options that you’re bound to find one you love. Spend an afternoon with your loved one creating one of these festive garlands. Not only will you have a wonderful seasonal decoration at the end of your time together, but you’ll make some special memories together!

Crafting is not only a fabulous way to pass the time, it’s also a great way to connect with friends, family, and others in your community. Consider hosting a crafting party to create some of this gorgeous decor and bond with your loved ones. Remember to take lots of photos and videos, and bask in the memories for years to come!
