Beautiful Fall Decor Ideas for Our Community at Hammond Glen

Seasonal decorating for your loved one’s home!

There’s nothing quite like fall. The changing leaves and sweater weather coming about–this season is all about getting cozy and enjoying the transition from summer to winter. We love to encourage our community to embrace seasons, holidays, and special moments. What better way to do just that than by adding a little extra decoration to your loved one’s home?

At Hammond Glen retirement community, we love seeing the amazing decor our residents come up with for each season and holiday. From seasonal crafts to family keepsakes passed down from generation to generation, every item gives you and your loved one a chance to share a story with us. We’ve come up with some of our favorite fall decor for you to explore with your loved one, and hopefully use as inspiration when refreshing their home for the fall!

Autumnal Wreaths

One of the simplest ways to warm up your loved one’s home this fall is by bringing in a new front door wreath. We love this fall wreath tutorial from Southern Charm Wreaths, which melds some natural elements with a few kitschy ones for a little extra oomph! If your loved one is more into a completely natural look, take them on a long walk to collect some freshly fallen colorful leaves. Then spend an afternoon together to preserve the leaves, and work with your loved one to place them on a wreath for a beautiful DIY project. Martha Stewart offers some great leaf preservation tips here!

Our favorite way to decorate is with mementoes and keepsakes that you or your loved one has carefully saved for years, or even ones that have been in your family for generations! Take an afternoon to explore memory boxes, stored items, and seasonal decor that may have been passed down to you, and see what items your loved one would like to display in your home. Not only will this bring a little autumn or fall into their home, but it will give you an incredible opportunity to hear the stories behind the mementoes, and to spend time reminiscing with your loved one. If you remember a specific story about a keepsake, share with your loved one and maybe help them unlock a beautiful memory!

Paint Pumpkins

Everyone loves pumpkin carving, but it can be messy and a little dangerous at times. For a more elevated look and far less mess, consider painting a pumpkin! Lay down some newspaper and bring out the acrylic paints and paintbrushes and go to town! The beauty of painting a pumpkin is that your imagination can run wild. Turn the pumpkin into a ghoulish creature, or paint an idyllic fall scene on the front. Decorate it with black and white checkerboard, a favorite poem, or paint several in complementary colors and display the collection. There really is no limit to the creativity you can unleash!
