This the season for baking! There’s truly nothing like a warm cup of cocoa and a holiday treat or two on a Saturday night in December to warm the deepest cockles of the heart. While we all have our favorites, we thought it would be fun to make a couple of suggestions for those days you just need something new!

At our Sunshine Retirement Living communities, our residents can enjoy amazing chef-prepared meals 27/4 that are healthy, satisfying, and absolutely delicious. For those times you want a fun little treat or to make something on your own or with friends, here are some yummy holiday treats for indulging in!

Christmas Chex

This holiday favorite is easy to make, has a little bit of a fiber and protein kick with its sweetness, and definitely is a crowd pleaser. With just five ingredients, it’s simple, yet festive. Combining Chex cereal (you can choose whether rice, corn, or wheat), red and green M&Ms, peanuts, pretzels, and a hefty coating of white chocolate, this yummy holiday treat is great for a party, a movie night, or bagged up as holiday gifts! You can find the recipe here!

Reindeer Cookies

These cookies are pretty much the cutest thing we’ve seen in a long time! A simple butter cookie with some carefully placed pretzels, M&Ms, and chocolate chips and you have the sweetest little reindeer cookie. While you can make all of them with a red M&M for a nose and have a whole herd of Rudolphs, we love the idea of just making one Rudolph, plating them, and seeing who finds Rudolph first! Check out the easy to follow instructions here on AllRecipes!

Chocolate Chip Snowballs

A classic, but often forgotten in favor of red and green cookies, these snowballs are sweet, buttery, rich, and absolutely delicious. We recommend saving this recipe for a day that you can really get dirty, as the sugar does tend to get everywhere. These are an excellent option for sharing, and make a great gift when visiting family and friends during the holidays.

Spicy Hot Cocoa

We couldn’t have a list of yummy holiday treats without including a hot cocoa option! While classic hot cocoa is always a good idea, we love this spicy take. Simply use your favorite cocoa mix, add a dash of cayenne pepper, and a dollop of whipped cream topped with cinnamon, and you’ll have a sweet treat with a lovely little kick! If you’re a little spice-shy, consider using cinnamon or ginger instead of cayenne pepper. You’ll still get a kick, but with a little less heat!

While the holidays can encourage veering from our healthy eating habits, we like to be of the mindset that carefully planning your treats will keep you from overindulging–even during the holidays. One of the best ways to do this is to bake, and give away most of your treats. Not only is it a great way to share with your community, but it means you can still enjoy a holiday cookie or mug of cocoa without overdoing it. We hope you enjoy these great recipes!
