When the weather is hot and cooking seems to be the last thing on everyone’s mind, getting a nutritious and filling meal can be difficult. Smoothies are a fantastic solution to get the nutrients your body needs and the refreshment your body craves. From fruit to nut butters, there’s really no shortage of what you can do with a smoothie.

While residents of our retirement communities in Georgia enjoy fantastic meals created by our incredible chefs, we wanted to give you a couple of fun options that you can make at home! From our amazing staff at Dunwoody Pines Retirement Community to you, please check out some of our favorite smoothie recipes below!

Almond Butter Date Smoothie

Packed with nutrition and flavor, this delicious smoothie is plant-based and has a couple of surprising ingredients! Combining traditional ingredients like banana, almond, and sweet dates, the recipe also calls for frozen cauliflower and spinach – for added nutritional value! We suggest using frozen bananas, a little almond extract for extra almond flavor, and adding extra protein with flaxseed or hemp!

Cherry Pie Smoothie

What dessert screams summer more than cherry pie? While baking a pie in the oven is not ideal on those hot summer days, we think you’ll love this sweet, cold smoothie version of the beloved dessert. Using frozen cherries, oats, and both almond and vanilla extract, this smoothie has tremendous flavor. Consider adding a sprinkling of frozen blueberries for an antioxidant kick, or a bit of frozen dragonfruit for a bit of extra creaminess without adding too much added flavor. We’re sure you’re going to love this sweet and delicious concoction!

Summer in a Cup Smoothie

Nothing says summer quite like the flavors in this delicious smoothie from Minimalist Baker. With bright raspberries, smooth frozen banana, tangy orange juice, and a splash of pomegranate juice, this blended treat brings out summer in the best way. While the recipe calls for almond milk, you can use whatever milk is best for you! For a little extra summer in this smoothie, we suggest adding in a touch of coconut milk or even a little pineapple.

Green Smoothie

We’re back with the Feel Good Foodie and tackling a yummy green smoothie. Green smoothies are veggie based versus fruit based, but still have plenty of sweetness! It’s all about balancing the ingredients perfectly to compliment each other. This simple version includes just five ingredients: almond milk, spinach, avocado, pineapple, and chia seeds. Sweetness from the almond milk and pineapple pair well with the bitter spinach, and the creaminess from the avocado breaks up the tanginess from the pineapple. Chia seeds give everything an added nutritional punch!

Strawberry Kale Smoothie

You can’t go wrong with a strawberry based smoothie – especially when it’s paired with a leafy, healthy green like kale! This easy strawberry kale smoothie from Jessica in the Kitchen combines the two with coconut yogurt, almond milk, and maple syrup – making this smoothie creamy and vegan friendly! We love a good vegan option!

So break out the blender, stock that freezer full of frozen bananas, and get your creative juices flowing (pun intended) – it’s smoothie time! Let us know which of these recipes winds up being your favorite!
