Downtown Charleston

Known for its deep history, incredible food, wonderful weather, and beautiful sights, Downtown Charleston is at the top of our list for must-see locations in South Carolina. As one of the oldest towns in America, Charleston is packed with historic architecture and charm, one of its many appeals to tourists.

Did you know that there are actually over 2,500 hundred historic bulldogs within the city? That, coupled with waterfront parks, Spanish moss hanging from the nearby trees, and even horse-drawn carriage rides, there will be no shortage of enchanting experiences when visiting this historic port town. Just a short drive from Ashley Gardens, our memory care, and transitional assisted living community be sure to check out downtown the next time you are in the area. Charleston City Market

While in the area, another favorite stop is the city market. Set around 200-year-old historic buildings, the market showcases local vendors, restaurants, shops, and more! Find your first stop at the market on the Charleston City Market website.

Brookgreen Gardens

A must-see in South Carolina this spring is the Brookgreen Botanical Gardens. With fresh blooming flowers and incredible landscaping, this is the perfect destination to spend an afternoon when passing through Murrells Inlet. The botanical gardens help preserve this historic site’s natural and cultivated landscape. In addition to beautiful foliage, you can also check out the other exhibits in the area including the Low Country Zoo, Low Country Historical Sites, and the incredible internationally renowned art sculptures. Be sure to plan your visit when you’re in the area!
