When it comes to beautiful nature in Georgia, we have it all: coastal beaches, green farmland and even majestic mountains! Georgia doesn’t take a break from showing off its beauty in the fall, either. There are countless indoor and outdoor places to visit during the cooler weather months where you can bask in the beautiful colors of autumn. Between our four wonderful Georgia retirement communities across the state, we encourage our residents to explore their larger community and see the sights. Here are some of our tips for day trips you or your loved one can enjoy in Georgia this fall!
Located in Piedmont Park in Atlanta, there are many reasons a visit to the Botanical Gardens should be one of your first day trips in the fall. For one, there’s a fun scarecrow decorating competition every year! Walking around the 30 acres of greenery by yourself or with a loved one gives you the chance to enjoy the beautiful colors of the season, as well. We doubt you’ll ever see a topiary sculpture as amazing as the enormous dragon plant masterpiece they have there. Interested in making a day of it by going to a park and bringing a picnic lunch? Look no further than Tallulah Gorge State Park for your next fall day trip. This state park offers a wide variety of activities depending on your mobility level and attitude for adventure! There are hiking options as well as paved roads for exploring a more scenic route. While at the park, you can expect to see raging rivers and amazing waterfalls. Finish your time at Tallulah Gorge State Park with a fun visit to their gift shop, where you can even get ice cream and look over the park with a telescope! Taking a relaxing train ride along a scenic view in Blue Ridge, Georgia might be the perfect option for a fall day. While this option is less active than walking or hiking, being outdoors and in nature in any capacity does wonders for emotional well-being. This train ride is four hours long and covers a 26-mile round trip. The journey takes you along the Toccoa River through the North Georgia countryside. If you’re observant, you’re bound to see the bright hues of red and orange when the train goes through the mountains and the fall foliage. To make the most of this experience and spot the best views, choose open air car seating, which will put you on bench-like seats facing outward. Take a look at the Blue Ridge Scenic Railway website here.
