When summer arrives, we head outside! While Texas summers can be hot, we think that with the right preparation and the right weather, summer is the perfect season to enjoy the great outdoors in Texas. Residents at The Gardens at Brook Ridge Memory Care and Transitional Assisted Living have access to plenty of scheduled activities planned by our amazing Life Enrichment Director. And for those who want to explore and take part in various outdoor activities, our community is in an incredible location with plenty to do! With its warm temperatures, blooming wildflowers, and beautiful scenery, Texas offers an array of outdoor activities to enjoy. In this blog post, we’ve rounded up some of the best outdoor activities for you!
Texas is home to some of the most beautiful parks in the country, and the warmer seasons are the perfect time to explore them. From hiking and water sports to bird watching and picnicking, local parks offer a variety of outdoor activities to enjoy. Choose a park and activity that the whole family can enjoy by considering everyone’s interests and physical capabilities when planning your trip.
Fishing is a great outdoor activity, and offers some excellent fishing opportunities. Whether you’re an experienced angler or a beginner, there are plenty of fishing spots that offer a chance to catch a variety of fish species. The good news is that fish tend to bite in the morning, which means you and your loved ones can enjoy your activity before the weather gets too hot!
Festivals are a great way to celebrate your interests with a group of people who love the same things you do From music of any genre, to barbeque, art, cartoons, comics, or other niche interests, there are festivals all over Texas–indeed, all over the US–that cater to anything you’re into! Find a smaller local festival for a day trip, or plan a longer trip to attend a festival that would be a once-in-a-lifetime experience. If you want to make sure your loved one will be comfortable and enjoy themselves, make sure to contact the festival team to make sure any necessary accommodations can be made.
Texas is home to several beautiful botanical gardens that are perfect for a leisurely stroll. The McAllen Nature Center is open in the mornings and evenings and offers walking trails, bird watching, and a variety of local plants to enjoy and learn about. These gardens offer a chance to admire the beautiful flowers and plants that are in bloom during the season. Just don’t forget to take your allergy medicine and wear sunscreen!
Summer is the perfect time to take a scenic drive in Texas and enjoy the beautiful scenery–from inside the air-conditioned vehicle! Whether you choose a local route on some less-populated roads outside of town, or plan a longer road trip to some further locations across the state, the Texas scenery will never disappoint!
Texas is a bird watcher’s paradise, with over 600 bird species recorded in the state. Although you may have missed peak migration season in spring, summer is a great time to see the heat-tolerant species that call our state home year-round.
With a little planning and some preparation, summer is still a wonderful time to enjoy the great outdoors in Texas, and you have the perfect opportunity to take advantage of all the activities the state has to offer. While our residents can find daily physical and mental activities on our community calendar, the great state of Texas has so much adventure to offer. Whether it’s exploring a state park, attending a festival, or simply taking a scenic drive, there’s something for everyone. So, grab your sunscreen, put on your walking shoes, and get ready to enjoy!
