Our Sage Park Memory Care and Transitional Assisted Living community is a vibrant place filled with individuals who have a wealth of knowledge and a lifetime of stories to share. Our senior residents thrive on their personal connections and engaging activities. As summer is in full swing, it’s the perfect time to explore the wonderful world of crafts, bringing people together in the pursuit of creativity and fun. While we supply all sorts of crafts throughout the year, we wanted to share a few extra fun seasonally-themed options to ignite the imagination.
Let’s start with a classic summer craft that’s both simple and satisfying: terracotta pot painting. Gather a bunch of plain terracotta pots, acrylic paints, brushes, and let the creative juices flow. We recommend vibrant patterns, colorful flowers, or even your initials! These painted pots can be used as charming planters or given as thoughtful gifts, bringing beauty to your surroundings and sparking conversations among friends and family.
Creating memory collages is a delightful way to reminisce and share stories. All you need is some colorful cardstock, magazines, scissors, glue sticks, and personal photographs or mementos. Then begin creating collages that reflect on your favorite summer memories or capture significant moments from your life. When you’re done, you can display these collages in common areas or around your space to inspire conversations and make connections.
A perfect summer-inspired craft, seashell wind chimes are fun to make and unique to everyone. Varying sizes of seashells can be found at craft stores or online. While you wait for your seashells to arrive, we love the idea of getting outside and finding pieces of nature to use to secure your windchime. Look for branches or pieces of wood that would be strong enough to hang the shells from. Using fishing line or twine to string the shells onto the branches, you can begin creating your whimsical wind chimes that sing with the sound of the ocean breeze. Hang them near windows where they can catch the breeze and play in the wind!
Bright and cheerful, sun catchers are a fantastic craft to welcome the warm summer days. For this summer favorite, you’ll need translucent plastic sheets, colorful markers, and string or ribbon. Then, begin drawing and decorating your sun catcher with vibrant patterns and designs. Once finished, these sun catchers can be hung in windows, casting colorful hues around the room and bringing a touch of summer radiance to your space.
Bird watching is a relaxing and enjoyable pastime, especially during the summer months. One of the best ways to create your bird feeder is by using recycled materials such as plastic bottles or milk cartons. Cut openings for birds to access the food and attach strings for hanging. Fill the feeders with birdseed and watch as feathered friends flock to your home-made feeder, providing endless entertainment and a connection to nature.
Crafts have a remarkable way of bringing people together, sparking creativity, and nurturing connections. Embrace the joy of crafting this summer, and witness the smiles and memories that bloom in the process!
