Building and Maintaining Relationships at Our Retirement Communities

One of the biggest joys of retirement is enjoying time to slow down and enjoy life’s little moments with our loved ones. From adventures and community events to outings and even exercise classes, there are so many ways to maintain an active social life at our Sunshine Retirement Living Communities. With an extensive calendar of activities and events at each one of our communities, as well as many ideas for connecting with friends and loved ones on a more intimate level, we at Sunshine Retirement Living have made connecting with others easy and enjoyable! Check out some of our top tips below!

Come Work Out!

If you’re looking for a fun way to get to know other members of our community, join up for one of our exercise classes. With a full weekly schedule of physical activities to keep our bodies moving, working out together is not only a great way to keep your body active, but keep socially active. From cardiovascular exercise classes to yoga, Tai Chi to strength training, we have so many options for keeping you fit and healthy. So come connect with your neighbors to keep your bodies in tip-top shape. It can be a true blast to bond over working up a sweat!

Throw a Party!

While we’re not talking about throwing a raging house party like a college campus, we do see the benefits of turning up some great tunes, pouring some delicious mocktails, and laying out some finger foods with your friends and neighbors. Keeping your guest list to 6-12 people will allow people to bond in smaller groups and connect without feeling intimidated by a large crowd or feeling forced to connect with just one or two other people. When inviting your guests, consider inviting a couple people you might not know super well to expand your social circle. We also suggest having a theme or activity for the party, as an activity can provide a structured way to interact with one another. We suggest party games, a dancing contest, or even something like a craft or flower arranging.

Get Out and Explore!

We love a good adventure, and we know you do too! One of the most unique options we have at Sunshine Retirement Living is our travel program. As a resident of our communities, you have the opportunity to travel to any of our communities as a guest for up to seven days in one of our guest suites. Come meet new friends in our varying communities, explore a new city or state, and live out your travel fantasies in an easy and hassle-free manner. Spend a week in sunny California, or a week in the heart of the Midwest, and make friends for life.

Go to Town!

If you’d rather stay close to home, we also provide shuttle services to our surrounding communities for quick day trips, errands, or just a day shopping with your friends! Schedule a trip to town with a couple of friends to enjoy lunch and shopping, or to explore a neighborhood park with a picnic lunch in tow. Exploring your surroundings with friends is an excellent way to bond, and also allows for connecting with people in your city or town that you might not see on a regular basis. Not only will you enhance your current relationships, but you just might connect with people you wouldn’t have met before.

Staying socially connected is one of the most important things you can do for your mental health. Not only does it stave off loneliness, but it also creates beautiful moments you can treasure for years to come.
