Here at our Georgia senior living communities, we understand the importance of time together. Whether it’s visiting your loved ones at one of our top rated retirement communities, or celebrating life’s biggest moments together, we understand how important it is to spend time with the ones you love.

What better way to enjoy this quality time than over great food at a dinner party? And there’s never a better time than now to plan one yourself. Our team has created our top 5 recommendations for planning the perfect winter dinner party.

Create Your Guest List

The first step in hosting a successful dinner party is planning the guest list and sending invitations out in a timely manner. Life is busy, and while you may have set the date for your gathering aside, not everyone you are hoping will attend has done the same. That is why our first (and one of the most important steps in this entire process) is getting word to those you want to attend out early. A good rule of thumb is to send the invitation 3 to 4 weeks in advance. This will give your potential guests plenty of time to check their calendar, make any arrangements necessary, and RSVP. We also recommend asking about any food restrictions in the invitation so that you can take that into consideration for our next step.

Plan The Menu In Advance

Once you know who will be attending your dinner party, the next step is to plan the menu. Doing this ahead of time will reduce stress the week of your event and will allow for you to create a menu that accommodates any food restrictions of your guests. We always recommend having at least one or two vegetarian or plant-based options. Because this will be a spring dinner party, a few great menu options are:

  • Fresh salads
  • Roasted early spring veggies
  • Whole roasted chicken with lemon and herbs

For an additional decorative and entertaining touch, you could also include a spring-themed cocktail or mocktail to the menu.

Don’t Forget To Decorate

Decor is a big factor when it comes to making your space feel more inviting. For a spring dinner party we love the idea of sticking to a blue or green color palette to emulate the blue sky, emerging plants, and warmer weather. If you don’t want to take the spring theme too literally, a fresh flower arrangement and some fresh-scented spring candles will do the trick.

Create A Festive Playlist

Having background music is one of the best ways to ensure that the dinner party is a hit. It takes the pressure off of any potentially awkward silences and really seems to help keep the conversations flowing. It is also relaxing, which is what you want your guests to feel. A great option for background music is smooth jazz. We also recommend throwing in a few upbeat songs that you feel really captures the vibe of the dinner party.

Prep As Much As You Can Ahead Of Time

While this party is feeding your guests, you want to make sure you are also enjoying yourself. After all, the purpose is spending time together. That’s why our final tip is to prep as much of the food as you can ahead of time. Items like desserts and salads can easily be prepared ahead of time. This will allow you to be more hands-off in the kitchen during your party, and really get to enjoy your loved ones and all of the effort you put into the night.
