There’s no shortage of fun shops and downtown hangouts in South Carolina. Whether you want to head to the beach or the historic districts, South Carolina is truly an active senior’s playground. From Charleston to Greenville to Columbia, our resort-style South Carolina communities are surrounded by many types of exciting excursions.
That’s good news for seniors who love to get out and shop! We’ve compiled a list of some of the best shopping near our communities for both our seniors and their visitors to check out.
The beautiful streets of Charleston boast some of the most well-preserved and gorgeous historic buildings. But history is not the only cool thing about this street–King Street is also home to some of the best restaurants and shopping in the area! Whether you’re looking for soul food or fine dining, you’re sure to find something that pleases. Make a day out of it by hitting the local boutiques and unique Charleston shops! You’ll find small businesses you would’ve never known about otherwise. If you’re looking for a large chain store like J. Crew or Vineyard Vines, you’ll find that here as well.
If you’re looking for the ultimate luxury experience, you’ll want to stop at the Shops at Belmond Charleston Place. According to reviews, they have the fanciest bathroom on all of King Street! But they’re also so much more than just a fancy bathroom. At the Shops at Belmond, you’ll also find stores like Godiva chocolate and Louis Vuitton, as well as Charleston’s finest dining restaurant, the Charleston Grill. Take a peek inside The Belmond too, one of the most luxurious boutique hotels in Charleston. Sounds like a great photo opportunity to us!
Are you a reader? Maybe you like the feel of a good book in your hands versus a tablet. If that sounds like you, you’ll love Blue Bicycle Books. Located on King Street, close to Marion Square, this used bookstore may look small, but it carries 50,000 volumes! They also have the most complete collection of secondhand and rare books as well as new material. Blue Bicycle also hosts local authors often!
Heading on over to Greenville, we highly recommend visiting its thriving downtown neighborhood. There’s so many fun things to do, see, and experience! Want to stop in the spa? The gemstone mine? History museum? Winery? Downtown Greenville’s got it all. Stop in the Adidas employee store or the locally owned boutique shops (or both!). This is an area you’ll want to make an entire day out of, so plan accordingly!
One of the best local shopping experiences is Greenville’s Saturday Market. Also a part of the downtown Greenville experience, the Saturday Market allows you to find local produce, treats, and home-grown fare straight from local Greenville’s farmers. This market contains over 75 vendors and features seasonal produce, local meats, crafts, photography, woodworks, and so much more. Grab a Saturday morning coffee and stroll along this community based jamboree.
Now let’s head over to Columbia! Looking for some new spring decor? We’ve got the store for you. One of the most fun places to shop is nestled just across the river from downtown Columbia. The Old Mill Antique Mall has over 75 dealers selling antiques, collectibles, and furniture. You never know what gold mine you’ll strike here!
