For so many, living in Colorado is an absolute dream. With every season being equally glorious and activity filled, people who love the change of seasons can relish in outdoor adventures all year long. Uniquely beautiful, summer in Colorado is an outdoor enthusiast’s paradise. From hiking to swimming, birding to biking, there’s no shortage of fun to be had.
At our Belleview Heights Memory Care and Transitional Assisted Living Aurora, CO residents can take advantage of our beautiful campus to spend time outdoors. But for those wanting to take a trip elsewhere in our majestic region, we have curated a list of some of the best spots for family and friends to spend some much needed time together. Check out our list below!
Perfect for walking, biking, and more, Star K Ranch offers multiple walking trails including Wetlands Loop and the Sand Creek Greenway. For those looking for nature trails, Wetlands Loop offers stunning cottonwood trees and ponds that house all kinds of wildlife. The Sand Creek Greenway offers a low impact, sandy covered path, which is great for walking and avoiding too much strain on the knees. While these are not the only paths available at Star K Ranch, we do think they are some of the best in the area!
Covering land from Kansas all the way to Denver, the Smoky Hill Trail covers 592 miles of trails. The Smoky Hill Trail to Parker Road Trail Loop is only 4.72 miles long, but definitely worth a trip. Bikers can circle the loop several times for an effective workout, and walkers can enjoy a long leisurely walk on an early morning or in the late afternoon to avoid too much sun exposure. Remember to bring a full water bottle, apply sunscreen liberally, and dress in layers!
One of the most wonderful things about living in Colorado is being able to explore its rich history. At the Plains Conservation Center, visitors can explore 1800s homestead replicas, tipis, and encompasses 1100 acres of plains land. Birdwatchers can revel in bald eagle and red tailed hawk sightings, and animal lovers may see prairie dogs, coyotes, and pronghorn antelope! Hikers can enjoy incredible views of the Rockies, and explore the massive grounds. It should be noted that biking and pets are not allowed on the property, so leave Fido and your ten speed at home!
We would be doing you a disservice if we didn’t include Stanley Marketplace on this list. While not outdoors, this amazing marketplace features over 50 local businesses which include food, exercise, shopping, and so much more – all offering a fantastic place to get that daily step count completed! We love a good window-shopping adventure and exploring new cuisines, and this huge facility is the perfect place to get those steps in!
